The systematic and scientific basis of Forest management was started during 1800s both for management of natural forests and for creation and management of planted and plantation forestry in India. Across the globe, scientific forest management practices have gained momentum as forest resources were treated as a production forestry which eventually turned into protection forestry in the climate change scenario. The inculcation of scientific forest principles has helped to manage forest effectively both for production and protection role for favouring human sustenance. Many of the scientific principles were termed into different forest terminologies for easy understanding across the globe. The most commonly used forest terminologies were developed by Society of American Foresters (SAF), British Commonwealth Forest Terminology (BCFT) and Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has created an array of technical terminologies, which is acting as the common code of following scientific principles across the globe.
In the current book Handbook of Forest Terminologies comprises of scientific terminologies which are being commonly developed by various organisations like BCFT, SAF, FAO, etc. This book helps to bring all terminologies in one platform both for common understanding and easy reference as well. The volume II covers the areas of Biofuel, Forest Ecology, Environment and Climate Change, Forest Economics, Forest Engineering, Forest Soil, Forest Surveying and Tree Breeding. While developing these terminologies meticulous efforts were made to include the components of forestry subjects which are recommended by ICAR 5th Dean’s committee on forestry syllabus and ICFRE recommendations on forestry syllabus. No doubt this book is highly useful for B.Sc (Hons.) Forestry and M.Sc (Forestry) and Ph.D (Forestry) students and also the practising foresters and forest officials. Besides the quantum of subject covered in this book will be definitely helpful for aspirants in State and National level competitive examinations. Good efforts were made to incorporate all corner of forestry science and its related subjects such that this book is acting as a ready reference for forest terminologies. We strongly believe that this book is highly useful for foresters persuading forest academics, professional foresters and also aspirants of competitive examinations.
